I could have just titled this "Gunpla!", but that's a little~ too narrow a focus ;3~

Gundam is a merchandising machine. The entire megafranchise exists -- as much as it can pain to be reminded at times -- to push the sale of little plastic models. And then there's the figurines, the wall scrolls, decals, ufo catchers ... you name it, it probably exists or did at one time.

Is there some particular bit of Gundam swag you're fond of? A trend you don't like? Something you really, really wish existed because you'd snap it up in a heartbeat if it did?

How many actual gunpla, if any, do you have? Or is the whole gunpla aspect something not appealing, or maybe you just don't know where to start --?

ughugh I wasn't aware of that happening to 00 s2, but makes sense, sadly.
But for me it was s1 that made me throw money at Bandai for gunpla because I was actually invested in the character and story stuff.

Gundam does really, really well at selling little plastic robots. ^^

It doesn't do so well at selling little plastic robots /to me,/ but that's in part because they never work quite like I want them to. Even the Perfect Grade I built a couple of years ago - while it holds itself in poses beautifully - has trouble balancing on its own, because of its ginormous wings.

(It also includes The Stupidest Circuit In The World, but that's a whole 'nother rant.)

That said, if they made a PG Epyon, I'd have to hunt it down. >.>

One of the bits of random merchandise that makes me happy is silicon food molds shaped like chibi mobile suits. I have one with Gundam (the original one) and one with three Zakus in random poses. Casting chocolates in those is immensely amusing, even if each one is basically a mid-size bar on its own. Spraying them with that metallic cake spray makes it even more fun.

For now:

Something you really, really wish existed because you'd snap it up in a heartbeat if it did?

An actual 1/144 HG Long Dagger kit. Someday I'll build the garage kit I have, but oh, to have a version I'm not terrified of screwing up on.

To be honest, gunpla doesn't really appeal to me. I can enjoy looking at the mobile suits and whatnot but ultimately, I just watch gundam for the characters not the mecha. In terms of merchandise, I'd just go for character related artbooks if I had the chance.
